| Thursday
26th to Saturday 28th June 2008 - 7.30pm |
| Oh!
What a Night is an unashamedly escapist,
high-energy, feel good show, combining comedy,
romance and stunningly choreographed versions
of everybody's favourite disco hits. The
setting is New York in the mid-1970's. The
action centres on the city's hippest disco,
the Inferno, domain of the funkiest, coolest
DJ of them all, Brutus T. Firefly. (Kid
Creole) It's the only place to be, and to
be seen. Everyone's life revolves around
Saturday night. This is the one night to
put on your best threads, meet your friends,
dance to the coolest music on the planet,
and hopefully fall in love! Assuming of
course that you can actually get into the
Inferno. To do that means surviving the
rigid but totally arbitrary door policy
of the Inferno greeter and head doorman
the outrageous Mr. Stretch Mulligan. The
club is facing a financial crisis. The club's
manager, Jack has run up some large gambling
debts, and owes money to some very dubious
characters. As luck would have it, a major
Hollywood studio is casting a big budget
disco movie. To get the right atmosphere,
the movie company decide to use a club just
like the Inferno and to use 'real' people,
not actors. They send their top casting
director Roxie Rochelle to check out the
club and to audition the dancers! However,
financial ruin is not the only problem;
there is also a plot to cheat Brutus T.
Firefly out of the Inferno. Which leaves
various questions unanswered. Will the movie
save the Inferno? Will Jack survive the
gangsters? Who will pass the auditions and
become a movie star? On the Saturday,
there's two performances (4pm & 8pm)
